Thinking about: How important it is to have a support system – whether you are a blogger, a mom, someone who has recently moved to a new city, or someone starting a new chapter in his or her life. I think support systems can be found online, through local groups, through churches, or even at schools, but I think it is extremely important for everyone to have one. A young mother in one of the running groups I’m in on facebook committed suicide recently and it’s hard to see how many people stepped up and disclosed that they too were struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts. The “SOS” messages are the scariest, because you know someone needs help, someone is actually ASKING for help, and you don’t know how you can help or if you are doing enough. Please, people, reach out and find yourself some kind of support system. If you don’t know where to look or can’t find one convenient to you, email me and we will see what we can find. No man is an island, people. We all need help in one way or another.
Learning: That just because everyone has an opinion, not everyone’s opinion matters. I was reading a blog post yesterday that struck close to home. What others think of you and your decisions often doesn’t matter, as long as what you are doing is best for you and your family. If you are doing what you truly believe is best or is what you have been called to do, keep at it. Haters gonna hate.
Thankful for: coffee, family, baby kicks, a job where I don’t have to work weekends, the ability & drive to exercise, technology, and community
Excited about: football season, the upcoming fall weather, a new nephew coming in a few months, and a new niece or nephew not long after that, and the return of fall tv shows.
